Children's Dental Care in Hampton Park

We're proud to be your family dentist at Hampton Park Dental and welcome the entire family, including children of all ages!mom holder hey baby in hampton park

It is recommended to bring your kids in from one year of age so we can have a look at their baby teeth and spot any issues early on. We make it fun for little ones and offer a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We also provide comprehensive oral care advice and tips on keeping your child's teeth healthy and strong.

Why Is Children's Dental Care So Important?

Building early relationships with children is one of the best ways in which we can set them up for success in the future. Feeling safe, comfortable, and even excited about visiting their dentist sets them up for a lifetime of healthy and happy smiles.

Sometimes, we're asked why baby teeth are so important when they're going to fall out anyway. Great question! Primary (baby) teeth have several important and exciting jobs that make them integral to your little one's early oral development.

  • Guiding incoming adult teeth and holding space for them
  • Introducing your little one to their first solid foods
  • Helping your baby form their first words

When your child loses their baby teeth too soon, it can impact their future smile development. Let us help you care for and protect their precious smile!

What Happens During the First Dental Visit?

When your baby first visits our dental clinic, we'll spend time helping them acclimate to our environment with rides in the dental chair and counting their teeth so they get used to exams.

We won't incorporate teeth cleans until they are older and more comfortable in the dental chair; however, your child should continue to visit their children's dentist in Hampton Park every six months for checks.

  • Routine Check-Ups: Children will get age-appropriate dental care that may include exams, teeth cleans, x-rays when appropriate, fluoride, and patient education for parents and children.
  • Dental Sealants and Fluoride Treatment: Sealants help protect small teeth from decay and cavities with a thin layer of plastic coating covering their molars' chewing surface. Fluoride helps build and strengthen small teeth while also defending against cavities.
  • Tooth-Coloured Restorations: Tooth-coloured fillings and crowns repair damaged or decayed baby teeth to keep them healthy until adult teeth arrive.
  • Protective Mouth Guards: If your child participates in sports, a protective mouth guard can help will prevent injury without interfering with their sport.
  • Orthodontic Consultation: We'll begin evaluating your little one for orthodontic treatment (braces) around age seven, as some children can benefit from early intervention.

Is it time for your little one's first or next dental appointment? We would love to meet them!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a program provided by the Australian Government and administered through Medicare. It helps cover the cost of basic dental services for children aged 0 to 17 who are eligible. Under the program, each eligible child can receive up to $1,158 in benefits over two consecutive calendar years.

What Does the CDBS Cover?

The CDBS covers basic dental services including checkups, cleans, x-rays, fillings, extractions and root canal treatments. Orthodontic work, cosmetic dental services or hospital-based treatment are not covered.

CDBS Eligibility

Eligible children meet all of the following criteria:

  • They are aged 0 to 17 for at least one day of the calendar year
  • They are eligible for Medicare
  • Your family receives certain Australian Government payments such as Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant income support payment

At the beginning of each calendar year, Services Australia evaluates eligibility. If your child qualifies, you will receive a notification by post or through your myGov account. You can also check your child's eligibility and remaining balance through the Express Plus Medicare app or by calling Services Australia on 132 011.

Using the CDBS at Hampton Park Dental

When you book your child’s next appointment, ask our team whether they can use their CDBS benefits at Hampton Park Dental. We can check your child's CDBS eligibility and balance on the spot.

The cost of dental treatment depends on the type of procedures you need, and it's very specific to each patient's unique needs. The best way to determine the cost of your treatment is to book an evaluation with one of our dentists to determine your own treatment needs.

During your evaluation, our dentists discuss your oral health goals with you and gather information about your smile and dental health with an exam, x-rays, and photos of your teeth. After your evaluation, you'll clearly understand your treatment needs and options, what your timeline looks like for finishing, and the cost.

Yes! If you're considering extensive dental treatment, we can help you gain early access to your superannuation funds to help you cover the cost of your treatment. Early super access can be ideal in these situations:

  • You or at least one family member have superannuation funds
  • You don't have personal health fund insurance
  • It would be a financial hardship to cover the cost of your treatment with personal resources

Our team can help you with the paperwork for early super access while a SuperCare representative walks you through the rest of the process. You can contact our team for more information on early super access.

Note: Accessing superannuation for dental treatment is subject to eligibility and approval by the relevant government agency. We can assist with the process, but approval is not guaranteed.

Other Convenient Payment Options

If early super access is not an option for you, we do offer other options that can help reduce your out-of-pocket expenses for dental care, such as:

  • A gap-free comprehensive check-up and clean for eligible patients on any private health fund
  • Preferred provider status with Medibank, Bupa, CBHS, HCF and NIB, which may mean even lower out-of-pocket costs on selected treatments
  • Relationships with third-party companies that can offer affordable monthly payment plans, like Humm, Afterpay, TLC
  • Medicare Child Dental Benefit
  • HICAPS claims processing

Eligibility for health fund benefits, payment plans, and superannuation access varies depending on the provider and individual circumstances. Terms, conditions, and lending criteria apply. Please check with your health fund or finance provider to confirm your eligibility before treatment.
